[…] The day of the race was soon set. The leopard, certain that he would win, summoned all the animals in the forest to see him defeat the big one. The animals rushed to have fun and cheer for the giraffe's defeat.
As soon as the start was given, the two left side by side, but soon the leopard took the lead. He was running so fast that he ended up crashing into a tree and had to abandon the competition.
The animals were very disappointed to see the giraffe become champion. After the victory, she became even more talkative.
Nobody had the patience to put up with that endless blah blah blah anymore. Until the monkey, smart as he was, decided to fix the matter.
He took a bit of resin from a tree and mixed it into the branches that the giraffe usually chews. Then he hid, waiting for the talker to arrive to eat.
The leaves clung to the giraffe's long neck, and no matter how much she coughed and spit, they stuck to her throat, silencing her forever. From then on, her descendants were born without a voice.
