Yea! The water rat is yet another example of a semi-aquatic mammal: it lives on dry land, but has specialized in swimming to search for food and move around in the environment. This animal has webbed paws that help it swim. It is a less developed structure, but added to its waterproof coat, allows the mouse to perform well underwater.
To give you an idea, the water mouse can swim in three ways: with the exclusive alternating movement of the hind legs, using the four legs (as if marching on solid ground) and in a movement similar to the gallop of some land mammals, such as the horse. In fact, it is by "galloping" on the surface of the water that this rodent gets more speed. But in all three ways it makes good maneuvers to change direction.
The water rat lives solitary and prefers to go out at night in search of its food. It eats freshwater fish, insects and crustaceans, as well as fruits, seeds, fungi and some other vegetables. Because of its habits, it is always close to streams and swamps. It is found in the Atlantic Forest, the Amazon, the Cerrado, the Caatinga and the Pantanal.
