Lipids are known as fats and represent the nutrients we need to make up our body's cell membranes and cell energy stores. By eating nuts, almonds and olive oil, for example, we provide our body with something it doesn't produce: essential fatty acids.
These weirdly named substances are especially important in renewing our skin and strengthening our defense system.
When we ingest lipids, they give rise to substances that act to signal inflammation, or better, warning the body that a certain region of our body has suffered an injury and needs to be repaired. Ingesting insufficient amounts of lipids can cause the person to have healing problems, for example.
In addition, lipids are an important source of energy during long-term, low-intensity physical activities, such as walking the dog. But be careful: in excess, lipids are stored in the body and can cause health problems, such as increased blood cholesterol.
