Graciliano Ramos (1892-1953) was born in the city of Quebrangulo, also in Alagoas, he was a novelist, chronicler, short story writer, journalist, politician and memoirist. He is the author of classic books such as Dried lives, St Bernard and Memories of Prison. All three were adapted for cinema, and several works by Graciliano were translated into other languages. His books, although dealing with social problems in the Brazilian Northeast, present a critical view of human relations, which made them of universal interest.
Graciliano Ramos died on March 20, 1953, wrote 18 novels and is among the greatest in world literature of all time.
