In fact, not all crabs are like that. Those with different sized claws are called heterochelas. Crabs that have similar claws are called homochelas.
Depending on the species with heterochelia, the right or left claw may be larger. The difference in size happens because of a genetic inheritance, that is, the size of the claws is a characteristic passed from father to son.
