Did you know that crab claws are different sizes?

In fact, not all crabs are like that. Those with different sized claws are called heterochelas. Crabs that have similar claws are called homochelas.

Depending on the species with heterochelia, the right or left claw may be larger. The difference in size happens because of a genetic inheritance, that is, the size of the claws is a characteristic passed from father to son.

Notice that we're talking about a trait passed from father to son, and that's right: a different size claw is something that only occurs in males. The females of any crab species ________ always have the same size claws, which are small and used exclusively for food […]
