The compass is an instrument that has been used for centuries for guidance. It basically consists of a needle that always points to the North. You can build a low-precision compass yourself. For this, you will need a magnet (maybe you have one in your fridge), a needle, a cork stopper or a piece of Styrofoam, an adhesive tape, a knife and a bowl of water.
