The salt inside a salt shaker gains moisture and hardens, making it difficult to use. The rice is placed in the jar precisely to absorb this moisture and prevent the salt from sticking. This effect, however, does not last forever. When the salt shaker, even full of rice, clogs again, it is a sign that these grains have already absorbed all the moisture they could. To solve the problem, just change the rice.
