NAME:

Mesopotamia

Most of the neighboring regions [of ancient Mesopotamia] are characterized by aridity and lack of water, which discouraged settlement and caused it to be occupied by populations organized in small groups that circulated around the desert. Mesopotamia, on the other hand, presents a big difference: although marked by a desert landscape, it has a plain cut by two large rivers and several tributaries and streams.

(Marcelo Rede. Mesopotamia, 2002.)
