Two villages of isolated Indians were photographed for the first time, on the border between Peru and Acre. The sertanista José Carlos Meirelles, from Funai, had still found on land traces of two unknown ethnic groups and the Masko nomads. Rieli Franciscato, another FUNAI sertanist, located the exact coordinates of the malocas using Google Earth, a program that provides satellite maps. Meirelles, who had been looking for the villages for 20 years, flew over the area and spotted the swiddens and hollows. The plane scared the tribe, who never had contact with the white man. The women and children ran, and the men tried to shoot the plane with an arrow. Logging on the Peruvian side may have stimulated the migration of ethnic groups to Brazilian territory.
