Until 1931, the trophy was just called a figurine. That year, legend has it, Academy librarian Margaret Herrick, observing the statuette on the desk of one of the Academy's directors, commented: "Wow, it looks like my uncle Oscar." She was referring to Oscar Pierce, a Texas farmer. Film critic Sidney Skolsky heard the joke and published it. The name stuck. The Press Trophy, a faithful copy of the Oscars, was created in 1958 to reward the best in Brazilian TV.
