Every being – whether animal or plant – harmful to agriculture is considered a pest. Many insect species are pests and cause enormous damage to crops and plantations around the world. Millions of dollars are spent every year trying to contain _____________ damage.
The “locust clouds” – formed by migratory species – devastate all vegetation found in their path. They are not the only ones to devour crops destined for man. Major groups of insect pests include aphids, flies, bed bugs, crickets, grasshoppers and beetles.
