Solitary, the osprey remains for a long time perched on exposed branches. It catches fish with its feet, which are adapted for fishing: the soles of the feet are rough (gives greater grip) and the claws are long and curved. After capturing the prey, the osprey guides the fish lengthwise so that its head is facing forward. This ensures greater aerodynamics during flight.
The osprey is a cosmopolitan species, meaning it can be found on every continent (except Antarctica). The individuals that appear here in Brazil were born in North America, where the species breeds, and migrate here to avoid the harsh winter.
