Triunfo guarantees Bahia in the round of 16 against Chilean Bustamante
The Bahian Bia Ferreira debuted this Thursday (12), with a technical knockout, and secured in the round of 16 in the under-60 kilos category, at the Women's Boxing World Cup, in Istanbul (Turkey). Silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, the Brazilian will fight again on Sunday, at noon, against the Chilean Valentina Bustamante. All the fights of athletes in the country are broadcast live on the Olympic Channel.
Holder of the 2019 title, when the last World Cup took place, Bia was left this morning against boxer Badmaarag Ganzorig (Mongolia). The Brazilian landed well-aimed blows, forcing the referee to interrupt the fight to open the count (when the athlete is unable to continue fighting). In the second set, Bia further confirmed her superiority over Ganzorig, until the referee interrupted for the third time to count, and declared Bia Ferreira's victory by TKO.
Yesterday (11), the first day of Brazilian participation in the Worlds, Brazilians Jucielen Cerqueira Romeu (57 kg) and Caroline Almeida (52 kg) also won the first fight and advanced to the round of 16. The last boxer in the country to debut at the Worlds will be Viviane Pereira, at noon on Saturday (14), who was left out of the first round. Born in São Felipe (BA), Viviane will have as her opponent the winner of the clash between representatives of Turkey and Kazakhstan.
The competition, with 419 athletes from 93 countries, continues until the next 20th in the Turkish capital.
