It may even be strange, but it is the second most practiced in the world, second only to football. So it is! This different sport, which originated in India, is very famous in Asian countries. There, many players stand out and are famous professionals, known as our football stars. In China alone there are 12 million practitioners!
Badminton is similar to tennis. The differences are the size of the court (badminton's is smaller), the height of the net (badminton's is higher) and the main one: the ball gives way to a shuttlecock!
Badminton can be played in pairs or individually. The game is played in the best of three sets of 21 points each, and whoever reaches the mark first wins. Points are scored when the serving player manages to get the shuttlecock to touch the opponent's court. So, in fact, badminton is a “chic” shuttlecock game, with well-defined rules.
Despite being little known in our country, our athletes have already returned from the Olympics and Pan American Games with bronze and silver medals on their chests!
“I'm happy because more and more people are getting to know badminton,” said Guilherme Kumasaka, one of the medalists.
Luiz de França, coach of the sport, remembered something very cool: “Any sport is very important for the development of children. Just keeping them busy makes all the difference,” he said.
“Badminton develops motor coordination, athlete discipline, agility of thought, speed, and of course, physical preparation”, guarantees the coach who also loves to practice the modality.
