We talk about various consequences of atmospheric pressure on a daily basis, but, after all, what causes it? In fact, it is a consequence of the weight of the air. It is the weight of the entire atmosphere distributed in all directions around things that produces atmospheric pressure! So when height increases, pressure decreases, as there is less air over our heads. This is also why, when diving deep into the sea or a swimming pool, the ear can hurt. In this case, it is the pressure of water on the ears that produces the pain. The deeper, the more water on us and the greater the pressure exerted.
