Although known for its long and melodious song, the uirapuru only sings during the 15 days before mating, during nest building. At this time, he can sing for up to 15 minutes, twice a day, at dawn and dusk. Like the orange thrush, its song resembles a flute being played in the middle of the forest. A legend says that when the uirapuru is singing, the other birds fall silent to honor it, but this is most likely because its song is the loudest in the region.
