How do penguins survive in the middle of the ice at such low temperatures? It's just that, with the exception of those that live in tropical regions, the body of these animals is all adapted to cold climates.
In addition to its thick and waterproof feathers, which do not let water come into contact with the skin and still protect from cold wind, penguins also have large fat deposits under their skin, which act as a kind of blanket. To save energy and prevent the loss of their fat reserves, when they are on land in the polar regions, they slide on the snow on their bellies. Very cute, no?
The black plumage on their backs also absorbs the heat of the sun, helping them stay warm. Your circulatory system helps regulate temperature, which varies between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius […]
As long as the plumage is sparse, the young are protected by their parents. Until they are more developed, they carry them on their feet to prevent them from losing too much heat and ending up dying of hypothermia (low temperature).
But it's not just the cold that a penguin has to worry about. He also needs to protect himself from predators such as sea lions, orcas, sharks and leopard seals. For this, in the water, it takes advantage of its coloring through camouflage. Its dark, usually black back helps it blend into the dark waters when viewed from above. Its white belly causes prey and predators to mistake it for the clear sky when viewed from below.
