Why do we first see lightning and then hear thunder?

Lightning is the luminosity produced when electricity is released from a cloud and thunder is the sound of lightning. The speed of light is 100,000 times faster than that of sound; light travels at 300,000 kilometers per second, while sound travels at 345 meters per second. In this way, we first see light, which is faster, and then comes sound, which is not so fast.
