The small wild cat weighs about two kilos and feeds mainly on small mammals, such as rodents and marsupials, but also preys on insects, birds and reptiles.
Found in eastern Paraguay, northeastern Argentina and south-central Brazil, the small feline is in danger of extinction: it is classified as “Vulnerable” nationally and globally, victim of habitat fragmentation, roadkill, retaliatory hunting and animal-borne diseases domestic.
Despite being considered cathemeral (an animal that is active both day and night), research indicates greater activity during the night in spring and summer.
