In dense areas of the Atlantic Forest, the voice of the inhambuguaçu is one of the most striking for its timbre and power. The striking and characteristic song can be heard from afar and sometimes even confuse the listener as to which direction it is being emitted.
But despite being easily identified by voice, the inhambuguaçu (
Crypturellus obsoletus) is one of those difficult species to be observed in the forest. The terrestrial bird, in addition to having discreet plumage, is extremely skittish. The conservation status of the inhambuguaçu is not worrying, as unlike other relatives, it manages to adapt to some environments and tolerate areas of secondary forests.
