Scientists have yet to fully unravel why these cats spend at least half of the day sleeping. One of the hypotheses raised is the fact that cats are, by nature, hunters. Thus, instinctively, they would save as much energy for the moment of an eventual hunt, even if this is unlikely in the lives of domesticated animals. Studies reveal that cats alternate moments of light sleep (about 70% of the time) with periods of deep sleep, when rapid eye movements can be observed – acronym REM, in English. This movement, also present in human sleep, is an indication that pussies can have dream activities, that is, dreams. Most experts believe in such a hypothesis and the fact that cats move their paws and nails, ear flapping and making strange noises in the REM sleep phase would be evidence of these dreams.
