NAME:
A farmer was driving his wagon down a muddy road after a heavy rain. The horses could barely drag the load through the deep mud and finally stopped when one of the wheels sank into a puddle.
The farmer got down from his seat and stood beside the wagon looking at it, but making no effort to pull it out of the mud. All he did was curse his bad luck and loudly call Hercules to help him. Then, it is said, Hercules actually appeared, saying:
“Take the reins, man, and urge your horses on. Do you think you can move the wagon just by looking at it and complaining? Hercules won't help unless you make some effort to help yourself.
And when the farmer took the reins and urged the horses on, the wagon moved, and soon the farmer was moving along very happily and with a good lesson learned.
