Its plumage is beautiful, with a marked contrast of yellow and black and a hidden wing band visible only when flying. Its song is as or more beautiful than its plumage, and it challenges the common sense (proved by scientific studies) that if a bird is colorful, it generally does not have an elaborate song and vice versa. Fast, cheerful and complex, the song of the goldfinch often struggles with the monotony and constancy of the wind that often blows in mountainous regions.
