Rachel de Queiroz is a prestigious Brazilian writer who was precocious in everything. She was born in Ceará on November 17, 1910 and graduated as a teacher at just 15 years old.
As she witnessed the drought that devastated her land at that time, at the age of 20 she wrote one of her greatest works, the book “O Quinze”, which approaches the sad reality of the refugees fleeing the drought northeast. For the book, she received an award from the Graça Aranha Foundation and the work became known in the largest capitals.
Throughout her life, Rachel de Queiroz wrote many books, was a translator, author of plays, teacher and journalist, that is, she had a life dedicated to letters. She also wrote delightful children's books, such as "O Menino Mágico", winner of the Jabuti Prize for Children's Literature in 1969, "Andira" and "Cafute & Pena-de-prata".
