Gilson de Castro, one of the most important scholars of Brazilian trova, actually had a profession far removed from poetry: he was one of the most renowned dentists in the country. Trovador's Day honors his birth date, July 18, 1916 in Rio de Janeiro. After adopting the literary pseudonym Luiz Otávio, he published, in 1956, My Brothers, the Troubadours, a collection of more than two thousand songs by 600 Brazilian authors. In 1966, Luiz Otávio founded the União Brasileira de Trovadores – UBT –, based in Rio de Janeiro. He died in Santos, in the year 1977.
