Barred Dwarf Woodpecker

The barred dwarf woodpecker is the dwarf of woodpeckers. It measures approximately 10 cm and weighs an average of 11.5 grams. The nape feathers form a small crest.

The species is the least specialized, although it is very efficient in any situation of arboreal life.

The barred dwarf woodpecker generally lives alone, often accompanying mixed flocks of birds. He builds the nest with the entrance of the excavated tiny cavity, about 3 centimeters in diameter, thus limiting the visit of predators. Such a cavity is 10 to 20 cm deep and its largest diameter is about 6 cm.

It is a very territorial species. If any other bird approaches the nest, it attacks to defend the chicks.
