What is a hurricane?

A hurricane is a storm that forms over the oceans of tropical regions. Also known as a tropical cyclone, the hurricane is shaped like a column that rotates around its own axis and can cause winds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. In its center, known as the “eye of the hurricane”, the pressure is very low, there is no rain and the winds are weaker. This type of storm is called a hurricane when it originates in the Atlantic Ocean or the northeastern Pacific Ocean and is called a typhoon when it originates from the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The same phenomenon is known as a cyclone when it forms in the Indian Ocean.
