During the Middle Ages, especially between the 5th and 12th centuries, men's and women's clothing exhibited very few differences. All wore loose tunics, only fastened at the waist by a belt. The big difference was in the length of each of these pieces: for women, they were supposed to drag on the floor, covering their feet. For men, tunics were shorter and could be worn with long, colorful socks that highlighted their legs. These socks can be considered the ancestors of men's pants: over the centuries, they have been changing, passing by various models until they reach the current forms, which are no longer used with tunics similar to dresses, but with shirts and coats.
