NAME:

Read:

Red-tailed Ariramba is a bird confused with a hummingbird

The species has a wide distribution throughout the country and lives on the edges of forests and even close to rivers..

With shiny, practically metallic feathers and a long beak… This is how it is the red-tailed arramba (

ruficada galbula), a species that for such characteristics is often confused with hummingbirds. However, in reality, it has nothing to do with these birds. Even some of its not so distant relatives are the kingfisher and the kingfisher. These species, like the ariramba, nest in ravines.

But the resemblance to hummingbirds is so great that it has given the ariramba some popular names associated with the masters of the air, such as hummingbird, hummingbird and cuitelão. Another known popular name of her is needle beak.

The beak, incidentally, is a striking feature of this species, and is adapted to capture prey in flight. No wonder it is easy to observe this bird on the prowl to hunt an insect. The red-tailed ariramba is one of the 15 representatives that make up the Galbulidae family.

Widely distributed throughout Brazil, this beautiful bird delights observers, even motivating people to start birding.
