Africa before Europeans

Africa is a large continent and, since the emergence of human beings, it has been inhabited by different groups that have organized themselves according to their culture.
The African continent is considered the "cradle" of humanity, because, according to archaeological studies carried out to date, it was there that human beings appeared and then spread throughout the rest of the world
Egypt, always seen and admired in movies, is one of the great empires of antiquity in Africa. In the same period, Nubia and Ethiopia were also important kingdoms, where there were organized groups that lived in cities and traded with people from other regions of Africa and beyond.

In the 15th century, the period of the Great Navigations, Africa started to be visited and explored by Portuguese navigators and later by other groups of Europeans.
It was mainly from 1415 onwards when the Portuguese settled in Ceuta – a region to the north of the Africa and borders Morocco -, that trade and exploitation of products from the continent were intensified.
As the Portuguese got to know Africa better, they found groups organized into kingdoms and empires. From then on, the Portuguese began to trade gold, ivory and other wealth. Later, they also began to trade Africans, selling them to lands far away from Africa, including the Portuguese colony in America: Brazil.
