In 1796, English physician Edward Jenner (1749-1823) managed to create the smallpox vaccine. In fact, this was the first vaccine in history! Jenner's vaccine was based on the cowpox virus: the cowpox, another cousin of the smallpox virus. The big thing was that the product prevented people from developing human smallpox.
