It is popularly known as the naked-faced sandpiper, black sandpiper and bathed sandpiper.
The species has black plumage, long beak in yellowish or whitish tone. The face is bare and reddish. When it stretches its wings to the sun, it reveals blue plumage.
It feeds on crustaceans, crabs, molluscs and leaves. It searches for food in aquatic and flooded regions.
It is a migratory bird and converges to the Pantanal region in Mato Grosso during the dry months.
