Bird feeds on nectar and arthropods and easily adapts to large urban centers.
The cambacica (Coereba flaveola) belongs to the Coerebidae family, measures about 10 centimeters and weighs approximately 10 grams.
The bird has a brown back, yellow breast, gray neck and black and white striped head. There is no sexual dimorphism in the species, that is, the male and female have the same color.
It feeds on nectar and arthropods. It is an active bird, even singing, and it tends to bathe several times a day to clean itself of the nectar, which is usually sticky in the plumage.
When it wants to frighten a rival, the bird stands up, stretches its body and slightly shakes its wings. Sometimes, he starts to fight, even on the ground.
A curiosity of the species: the cambacica builds two types of nests. One of them, used for reproduction, is positioned high and has a more elaborate finish. The other, simpler one, with a wide, low entrance, is used for resting and overnight stays.
Cambacica easily adapts to large urban centers. It occurs in almost all regions of Brazil, but may be absent in heavily forested areas. It can also be seen from Mexico to South America, except in Chile.
