The king-woodpecker stands out for its size: with about 36 centimeters in length and approximately 200 grams, it is considered the largest woodpecker in Brazil. The head and neck are red and the breast is streaked in black and white.
Like the others, the species' repertoire of sounds includes, in addition to singing and calling, the famous drumming made by striking the beak on dry or hollow logs. Another feature in common is the menu: insects and larvae predominate.
