With about 65 centimeters, the Magellanic penguin lives in the south of South America and can be found in Argentina and Chile. In the reproductive period, between September and March, it forms colonies with thousands of individuals. Argentina, Malvinas Islands and Chile are home to the most numerous groups.
The diet varies between small fish, crustaceans and cephalopods (such as octopus and squid).
With no marked sexual dimorphism in the species, the male is distinguished by being more robust than the female. Both feature a huge amount of feathers that, together, help to minimize heat loss to the external environment.
