In nature, macaws emit characteristic sounds and screams, which are similar to the word “arara” (which is why the indigenous people gave it that name). It is with these screams that they communicate, define territories and even play.
Macaws are very intelligent and curious birds. True explorers, they like to play with interesting objects they find. They are also very social, spending a good deal of time interacting with their partner and their group, and at night they gather together in a pack to sleep.
They have agile paws that are used to bring food to their mouths and a large, strong, curved beak that acts as a third foot. With it, the macaw is capable of breaking very hard seeds and fruits, especially palm nuts, and digging into tree trunks to eat insect larvae.
