September 21st is Arbor Day. Two days before spring starts, the most colorful season of the year.
But did you know that this date was only instituted in 1965, by a president named Castelo Branco? Before choosing this day, people celebrated, in Brazil, the Annual Festa das Árvores, which took place in the last week of March.
There is also a World Tree Day or World Forest Day, but it is celebrated on the 22nd of May.
The first country to celebrate Arbor Day was the United States, on April 10, 1872. The celebration began in the state of Nebraska, where a resident named Julius Sterling Morton launched a major campaign to plant trees.
