The Mato Grosso zogue-zogue, or red-bearded zogue-zogue, is a newly described species, which is already at risk of extinction. The primate was discovered in May 2014, by the “Marsupials and small rodents of the southern Amazon” project, during an expedition to research mammals.
Close in size to a capuchin monkey, with more hair and brighter colors, the animal usually feeds on fruits and insects and is known for being noisy.
