The city of Itanhandu is nestled in a valley, in the south of Minas Gerais, where the Verde River meanders down the Serra da Mantiqueira.
Its source is 20 km from the city, forming wells, rapids and waterfalls of extreme beauty, where you can observe a rich fauna in birds and enjoy pleasant moments. The natural and scenic beauties of the municipality are an added attraction for sports and adventure tourism.
The relief, due to its altitudes that vary from 900 to 2,665 meters, favors the practice of mountaineering, hiking along the region's trails. Its geographical characteristics soften temperatures and create a typically mountainous and very pleasant microclimate.
Horseback riding is also part of the universe of possibilities in the lands of Itanhandu, covering itineraries such as Serra do Condado, Alto das Posses, among other ecological paths. Today Itanhandu, along with six other municipalities in the region, is part of the Tourist Circuit Terras Altas da Mantiqueira, it is part of the old path of Estrada Real and is inserted in the APA (Environmental Protection Area of Serra da Mantiqueira).
The Historic Heritage of Itanhandu has been recognized through the Inventory of Real Estate, prepared in a partnership between IEPHA and the City Hall, with the objective of preserving properties that reflect a little of the history and culture of the people itanhanduense.
