Estrelinha-ametista is one of the best known names of one of the smallest hummingbirds in Brazil, which can be confused with an insect because it emits a sound similar to a buzzing with the flutter of its wings.
Less than 10 centimeters long, this hummingbird impresses with its ability in the air, and is often seen flying backwards. It also stands out for its beauty.
The male of the species has iridescent feathers in the throat region, in the color that inspired the name of the bird; it looks like a jewel of nature. The female, on the other hand, does not have such a characteristic, however, it does not lose its charm. A curiosity is that she is even smaller than her partner.
