He was once a prince who was wise and just. He had seven servants, whom he treated with respect and affection. However, one day, he discovered that a bag of pearls had disappeared.
He didn't want to be unfair, he couldn't bear to accuse anyone of such a terrible crime! So the prince devised a very wise plan, which would bring the criminal to him.
He summoned all his servants and gave each of them a stick.
“These sticks are magic,” he told them. – All are the same length. Keep them safe and return the sticks to me tomorrow. If, by chance, there is a thief in my palace, his stick will grow an inch longer by tomorrow.
The wicked servant who had stolen the bag of pearls was afraid that it would be proved that he was a thief for the magic stick, and so that night he sawed off his stick exactly an inch too long. short.
The next morning, when the sticks were returned to the prince, the prince punished the servant with the shortest stick!
