NAME:
Read:
He was once a cock known for his arrogance. He used to show strength at sunrise, when he sang very loudly, in order to surpass, in timbre and time, the singing of his companions. It lifted its crest, puffed out its chest, and stayed that way for hours. The chickens looked on sympathetically, though a little bored with the daily repetition of the smug rite.
One day, it rained a lot. The cock puffed out its chest, lifted its comb, and crowed as usual. The other roosters fell silent.
Before long, the arrogant singer's throat swelled badly. He shrank, got a bad cold, and eventually had severe pneumonia that muted his vocal cords. Can't sing anymore.
A possum, who always passed by, commented:
– Was it just the voice of the big cock? Did you learn nothing in this time of mastery?
The chickens fell silent.
Moral of the story: Arrogance is a friend of stupidity.
