Well, everyone knows how fast a hare is, doesn't he? But there was one that, in addition to being fast, was convinced like she was. He was always bragging and challenging all the animals to a race.
No one dared accept the challenge, until the turtle, tired from so much talk, looked at the hare and said:
– A race against you? I'm in!
- You?! - Laughed the hare. – Well, can't you see? Where have you ever seen a softie like you mess with me?
– Well, I'm in, yes ma'am. Let's leave this point, go around the forest and come back here again. Then we'll see who's more dumb!
- Done! – accepted the hare.
The whole animal surrounded the two. Of course, everyone came to laugh at the turtle and that's what they did when the race started. The hare fired like a bullet and the tortoise slowly began to walk in its little tortoise step: tick, tick, tick…
The hare took off running. But halfway there, she decided to stop for a while.
– Why, I'm really a fool! Why run so much? The turtle will be crawling all day… Why get tired? I think I'm going to take a little nap… I rest and later take a little walk to the finish line. Poor turtle! It won't even be halfway there… poor thing… zzzzzz…
For the hare fell asleep. She slept and dreamed of her own arrival. In her dream, she imagined being carried in triumph by all the animals, after the easy victory against the tortoise's softy...
In the meantime, slowly, the tortoise went, it came, it passed the sleeping hare and continued its way.
And the hare? He only woke up with the noise of the animals celebrating the turtle's victory!
