Dolphins are capable of learning from each other and transmitting this knowledge for generations. They have their own culture, with different groups of dolphins exhibiting different behaviors and vocalizations.
They cannot sleep soundly because they have to come to the surface to breathe. To get around this, they sleep with one cerebral hemisphere at a time, as if they were in a trance, dozing, but somehow alert.
Dolphins are known for their infectious “laughter”. They produce a series of high-pitched sounds, which can be interpreted as a sign of joy or excitement.
These beautiful animals are known to be playful and curious, often interacting with humans and other animals. They have been observed riding waves, jumping after boats, and exhibiting other forms of playful behavior.
Dolphins' eyes are positioned on the sides of their head, allowing them to have a 360-degree view of their surroundings.
They are active at night as well as during the day and have an uncanny ability to see in the dark.
They have been known to help other dolphins that are sick or injured by supporting them on the surface of the water so they can breathe.
They often use objects such as seaweed, shells and sponges to play with and communicate with, passing them around as a kind of symbolic object.
The sounds of bottlenose dolphins can be detected by other dolphins over 20 km away, but they are affected by ocean noise pollution.
