Cabral left Portugal on March 9, 1500, bound for the Indies, on an expedition that had thirteen vessels. Shortly after departure, one of the vessels disappeared into the sea.
After passing through the lands of present-day Brazil, one of the vessels returned to Portugal to give the king news. Two exiles were left here and two cabin boys fled and stayed ashore.
On the way to the Indies, due to a storm, four ships sank and their crew died. Finally, when he returned from the Indies, one of the boats ran aground and Cabral had it set on fire.
