The goldfinch is an 11-centimeter bird. The male is yellow with a very characteristic black mask that facilitates identification. Because of this mask, it is called the black-headed goldfinch in some regions. It also has a hidden stripe on its wings that is visible only when it flies. The female is less colorful, does not have a black mask and instead of a vibrant yellow has more olive green plumage.
