Brazilian wins in the 1,500m, overcoming Argentine and Spanish rivals
Brazilian swimmer Beatriz Dizotti won gold in the 1,500 meters event this Thursday (18), the last day of the Barcelona stage of the traditional Mare Nostrum circuit. Five days ago, in France, the 23-year-old from São Paulo had already won bronze in the 800m.
In today's dispute, Bia completed the race in first place, with a time of 16min10s37, leaving Argentina behind Agostine Hein (16min14s19) and Spain's Angela Martinez Guillem (16min18s78), silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Two other Brazilians competed today in the 200m butterfly competition: Leonardo de Deus, finished fourth and Luiz Altamir Melo, eighth.
Yesterday (17), the first day of disputes, the country won two bronze medals: the first was with Alexia Assunção, in the 200m backstroke (2min13s42) and the other with Luiz Atamir Melo in the 200m freestyle (1min47s84).
The third and final stage of Mare Mostrum starts on Saturday (30th), in Monaco, with competitions starting at 11:30 am (Brasília time). The disputes are broadcast live on the website of the Brazilian Olympic Channel.
The Mare Nostrum stages prepare athletes for the Brazil Trophy – on May 30th and June 3rd – which distributes spots for the Swimming World Cup in Fukuoka, in July.
