An elderly woman, resident of the West Zone of Rio, decided to learn to read and write at the age of 67. Today, at 79, Dona Leonides Victorino, born in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, already has a university degree in Art History.
Dona Leonides spent her childhood on the farm. She started working as a maid and laundress but never lost focus. “I was kind of sad, people said I was illiterate, it seemed that I had a knife that cut my heart,” she said.
That was when she, aged 67, decided to put into practice her dream of learning to read and write, together with her five grandchildren.
In 2014, another achievement. Dona Leonides graduated in Art History at the University of the Third Age, at UERJ. “I dream big, I don't dream small, no,” she joked.
