Hippos are mammals belonging to the order Artiodactyla and family Hippopotamidae. These animals occur in Africa with the majority of the population found in eastern and southern Africa.
One of the main characteristics of the species is its great size, reaching from 1,300 kg to 3,200 kg and measuring from 2 m to 5 m in length and 1.6 m in height.
Because they are very territorial individuals, they are responsible for a large number of accidents with human beings. The main affected are the riverside populations, who use canoes to navigate in the environment of these animals.
