The first time stamp was made by the Egyptians, around 3500 BC. From an obelisk (a long object placed on the ground), they noticed that, at a certain time of day, the sunlight was stronger and the shadow of the obelisk shorter. This period was called noon. Then, they divided the period into 12 parts (six before and six after noon). Then, they attributed to the night period the same amount of parts given to the day – thus creating the 24 hours, used until today.
